The Public Administrator is appointed by the Probate Court to individuals unable to care for themselves or their property.
As Guardian, the Public Administrator is charged with the duty of managing all affairs and making decisions necessary to allow the individual (called a ward) to live in the least restrictive environment possible. As Conservator, the Public Administrator is charged with the duty of managing the assets and financial matters of an individual (called a protectee). The Public Administrator may also be appointed as Personal Representative of decedent estates.
